Akousmatikoi (Live Album) 2019 (~ 40 minutes) is a composition for solo saxophone and electronics. This project addresses digital technology as memories, evidence and iterations of a former self. Through a multitude of different means of creating and recalling digital audio information Akousmatikoi facilitates a collaboration between the current and the previous selves. Even during the performance, everything that was heard by the audience had gone through a full digital transduction. No previously recorded sounds were used in this project, and the original sound source (saxophone) was played in an isolation booth, apart from the audience.* A live video feed with variable delays was projected on the wall of the listening room. The title of this performance refers to the followers of pythagoras to whom he spoke from behind a barrier, diverting attention to that which was verbalized and away from his physical presence.
* Composing this piece for solo saxophone was done partially to serve the concept of this project. However, the predominant reason was that I wanted to perform a fully harmonized, polyphonic orchestration on my monophonic instrument.
